Narcissism? (Contest: The story of Cain & Abel – Ridge Quinn)

“Do not keep company with a hot-tempered man
Or get involved with one disposed to rage,
So that you never learn his ways
And ensnare yourself.” Or “your soul.” Prov. 22:24, 25.

Look at Cain of antiquity,
in jealousy grown bold,
since maybe coddled as a baby
like precious human ‘gold’?
An ‘idol’ to his mother
since birthed first this human soul?
Then core becoming rotten
when relegated ‘second’–
angered… Then uncontrolled?
Why didn’t he check his motives
when offered wise advice?
Why not love his brother
and contemplate his sacrifice?
What’s wrong with stopping to consider
patience, kindness, and just being nice?
No… Thought only of himself.
Brought up imitating
this evil vice
cultivated from both mother
and father–Narcissism.
Killed Abel spitefully, yes selfishly
without looking back or thinking twice…
“Then Cain went away
from before Jehovah
and took up residence in the land of Exile,
to the east of Eʹden.” Gen. 4:16.
Jehovah granting him mercy:
“anyone who kills Cain
will suffer vengeance seven” fold. Gen. 4:15.

“By faith Abel offered God a sacrifice
of greater worth than that of Cain,
and through that faith
he received the witness that he was righteous,
for God approved his gifts,
and although he died,
he still speaks
through his faith.” Heb. 11:4.
***
“The children of God and the children of the Devil
are evident by this fact:
Whoever does not practice righteousness
does not originate with God,
nor does the one who does not love his brother.
For this is the message that you have heard
from the beginning,
that we should love one another;
not like Cain,
who originated with the wicked one
and slaughtered his brother.
And for what reason did he slaughter him?
Because his own works were wicked,
but those of his brother were righteous.”
