with walls slippery or steep,
lined wood or wickerwork, ancient, brick or stone. Or modern pre-cast reinforced concrete well rings lowered into the hole to its finish hone.
Still, sometimes difficult to scale
as with Jeremiah in the miry cistern
left to die alone. But a friend, Ebed-melech, the Ethiopian freed him from sinking sadly into this pit. This muddy prison cell….In kindness even providing soft rags and pieces of cloth to cushion Jeremiah’s armpits against ropes possible to chaff.
Raised he was from the depths of Hell,
to thankfully continue on as a prophet to courageously prevail. Jer. 38:7-13.

Sometimes, in an interchange
an odor swells another’s’ nostrils
because of affectations
delicate senses
to assail.
Safe imbibing from personal sources
need extraction of particular
undesirable expressions
not screened… Water unfiltered, polluted, emotionally to demean
does not drinking freely induce, or compassion propel.
However, exist many variables, inside unseen.
So, we delve into this mysterious
cavern in chests
searching, digging
to reach
origins of emotions
of which we’re individually designed.
Intentions to sincerely glean:
“The thoughts of a man’s heart are like deep waters,
But the discerning man draws them out.” Pro. 20:5.
All-the-while, accepting
that we may not fully comprehend
what another really means
If they may say to God:
“Do not let the rushing floodwaters sweep me away, Or let the deep swallow me, Or let the well close its mouth over me.” Ps. 69:15.
Yes, we “must be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger”. James 1:19… In action as a river flowing peaceful, our words gracious to succeed.
Close relationships and friendships
are necessary footholds on which to draw
then shoulders strong provided for the weak to companionably lean:
“A true friend shows love at all times
And is a brother who is born for times of distress.” Pro. 17:17.
“There are companions ready to crush one another,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Pro. 18:24.
These associates’ stalwart endeavors forever in gratefulness to others regale. Highlight. Or visibly screen.
