Reminiscing. . . Serious Negotiation (Contest-Condor)

Once upon a time,
while traveling through the steamy Arabian desert of my youth,
I took a delightful pause upon seeing this Arabian red fox pup
outside its den
in intense
de-light i.e. daylight
as in conversation with an intriguing desert woodrat
aka pack rat, trade rat,
cute and quite active in being;
probably stopped in collecting any manner of debris
but especially any shiny ‘bling’…
…
I lay back upon my cot
suddenly cozy upon reminiscing this scene…
As I propped against my armored car,
I imagined that pup as me in all my new Arabian refinery
as part of a National Guard
loyal to an imperfect king…
Yes, I was quite a ‘dashing’ thing.
Just recalling makes my heart beat a bit more rapidly
and then again causes it to sing…
Anyway, I thought upon a village girl.
Quite a little fetching ‘dream’… with dark Abaya embroidered
sparingly; yet blue eyes sparkled and batted alluringly.
She slipped on by;
yet, into action I did spring.
For although a usually solitary ‘fox’,
I was still amorous to many a female;
called by me ‘wartime’ flings.
Although, I immediately felt a special need
to be social with ‘she’.
Caught by her saunter, felt for an ‘eternity’…
Yes, back then
time stretched endless
whether wealthy I was, but in the beginning–
penniless. A man in his many ‘springs’
buoyed up for a future imagined of excitement
and musings. Moons and beaches. Debates and speeches.
I took what I wanted
because I was wanted. And I was generous
to an assortment of fruits… Apples and peaches.
Then she appeared… And I became defenseless.
Speechless…
Yes, that little Arabian red fox
in communication with the woodrat in chat
makes me think back to all my animated ‘chit-chat’
to negotiate ‘Her’ back nightly to only ‘my’ flat.
I preened and strutted.
I brought presents galore and constantly hew-hawed
and stuttered.
I laid powerless and muttered.
Probably, as King Solomon did
despite his cache of wise sayings uttered.
But she said she was on to me
as this Arabian guard arrogant
in all his national refinery.
I recalled her words tossed
back to me in quiet frippery:
“I need a man dedicated, loyal,
to be with me in monogamy and constancy…”
I dropped my head and was able to grin
even though my heart dripped in sorrow within,
because: Yes, though only a pup,
I wouldn’t be a fox if I didn’t at least try to induce her
to lay down with me in intimacy…
I finally left that village in defeat.
My heart finally captured by a woodrat
with a potent potion.
Negotiations won by this sweet ‘woodrat’
holding upon her stalwart: Morality.
Yes, negotiations with her were more than a notion…
