Savannah’s Sparrow Singing No Siren’s Song

Chosen

to hide out in death–
by means of tragic…

Suicide

by young, old, rich, poor, bullied, denied;
convinced to decide
against continued life.

No more a need to war
or fight
inside.

Flight
to silence pain, derision, a lack of pride,
apathy, coldness,

a sightless daily walk or ride…

Why?

Not seen a future…

Careening into darkness
called: Futile.

Observed–
Constant strife between neighbors, countries,
man and wife.

Words not spoken to thoroughly convince
by religious leaders, political rulers, family or friends
of a real hope ‘true’

to lovingly dispense.

Against enemies held
no powerful defense.

Therefore believed:
‘Throw in the towel.’

For not foreseen
any recompense.

Defenseless:
Left family and friends.

When right within a Savannah sparrow’s song
is happiness dealt

for a semblance of acceptance
by all who as survivalists

belong.

It’s chirps and trills fill us with sweetness pure.

Its tune says,

“Yes, you can
like me
endure.”

When threatened by extinction
from outside sources causing sorrow to sing
seductively

as a fathom siren’s
haunting and deadly
lure.

*

Five sparrows sell for two coins of small value, do they not?

Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.

But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

Have no fear;

you are worth
more
than many sparrows.”
Luke 12:6, 7.
