‘Hard Work’ . . . Say We?
Must be my daily philosophy?
For contentment eternally?
*
Jesus “answered them: “My Father has kept working until now, and I keep working.” John 5:17… Resurrected, he, immortal to be
a ‘master worker’ in continuity from his prehuman existence as the ‘beginning of God’s creation’ even until now as the appointed King of God’s Kingdom over obedient humanity.
*
“Jehovah produced me as the beginning of his way,
The earliest of his achievements of long ago.
From ancient times I was installed,
From the start, from times earlier than the earth.
When there were no deep waters, I was brought forth,
When there were no springs overflowing with water.
Before the mountains were set in place,
Before the hills, I was brought forth,
When he had not yet made the earth and its fields
Or the first clods of earth’s soil.
When he prepared the heavens, I was there;
When he marked out the horizon on the surface of the waters,
When he established the clouds above,
When he founded the fountains of the deep,
When he set a decree for the sea
That its waters should not pass beyond his order,
When he established the foundations of the earth,
Then I was beside him as a master worker.
I was the one he was especially fond of day by day;
I rejoiced before him all the time;
I rejoiced over his habitable earth,
And I was especially fond of the sons of men.” Pro. 8:22-31.
*
‘Especially fond of’ us, ‘the sons of men’?
Then I must display appreciation
from deep within!
*
“Remove untruth and lies far from me.
Give me neither poverty nor riches.
Just let me consume my portion of food,
So that I do not become satisfied and deny you and say, “Who is Jehovah?”
Nor let me become poor and steal and dishonor the name of my God.” Pro. 30:8, 9.
*
Therefore, “Let the one who steals steal no more;
rather, let him do hard work, doing good work with his hands, so that he may have something to share with someone in need.” Eph. 4:28.
We want something to share?… Yes… Instead of being ‘busybodies’ in other’s affairs…
*
“Make it your aim to live quietly and to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we instructed you, so that you may walk decently in the eyes of people outside and not need anything.” 1 Thess. 4:11, 12.
*
For, “Sweet is the sleep of the one serving, whether he eats little or much,
but the plenty belonging to the rich one does not permit him to sleep.” Ephesians 5:12.
Jehovah is a happy God, and his people reflect that quality. Furthermore, unlike those who are lovers of themselves and who are interested only in receiving, Jehovah’s servants find delight in giving of themselves for the welfare of others. (Acts 20:35; 2 Tim. 3:2) How can we determine if our love of God is being eclipsed by love of self? Consider the admonition found at Philippians 2:3, 4: “Do nothing out of contentiousness or out of egotism, but with humility consider others superior to you, as you look out not only for your own interests, but also for the interests of others.” We might ask ourselves: ‘Do I apply that counsel in my life? Do I reach out to help others, both in the congregation and in the field ministry?’ Giving of ourselves is not always easy. It requires effort and self-sacrifice. But what could make us happier than knowing that we have the approval of the Sovereign of the universe? w18.01 23 ¶6-7
