Familiar (60 word story by Alexander Boukal)
blocking sun
endless days.
Shaded, eyes
tearless. Bloodshot.
Wails silenced.
Phone silent.
Walls confining.
Bed? Blessed.
Shed? Anger.
Fed? Nothing.
Felt? Nothing.
Air? Rancid.
Atmosphere? Black.
Attitude? Blank.
Knock heard.
Pleading. Absurb.
Steps retreat.
Repeated process
during night–
fights defeat.
Sirens remind.
Mind recoils.
Blood boils.
Shakes return.
Pillows bunched.
Limbs furl.
Door opens.
Blinds opened.
Eyes open.
