From Under the Broom Tree

From Under the Broom Tree (contest Touch the heart of the hero or the helped)

I ran and ran.

Lodged under this welcoming broom tree
In a barren landscape mimicking me.

I ran and ran.

Determined not to be
Slaughtered by a woman queen enemy.

From under the Broom Tree,

in reality
a desert shrub of the pea family
abundant in a Judean wilderness, Sinai Peninsula and Arabia

among rocky terrain,
hillsides,
open sandy stretches,
where its roots dive deep
to absorb moisture
for life to seek

internally too I wept;
asked that I might die.

“It is enough!” I then ardently cried.

“Now, O Jehovah,
take my life away,
for I am no better than my forefathers.”

Exhausted by depression; eventually, I slept

deeply in sleep sound
due to anxiety of devastation
bound

for promised death
by this woman wicked found

though now sheltered by a beauty
where blossoms of pink to white clusters of delicate flowers create a lovely sight

unseen by my usually observant eye
because of a threat messaged to me
which precedes my mental blight.

An angel of Jehovah sent twice
To feed and comfort me
Further strengthened me
To forty days persist

On to Horeb, the Mountain of the True God
I came. Into a cave for a day
Before my vent to proclaim
After questioned:

“What are you doing here, E·liʹjah?”

On this I did insist:

“I have been absolutely zealous for Jehovah the God of armies; for the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, your altars they have torn down, and your prophets they have killed with the sword,

and I am the only one left.

Now they are seeking to take my life away.”

But He said: “Go out and stand on the mountain before Jehovah.”

A forceful violent wind.
An earthquake rattling mountains of stone.
A blast of intense heat from a raging fire.

“After the fire, there was a calm, low voice.”

Again questioned, I:
“What are you doing here, E·liʹjah?”

So twice I did reply:

“I have been absolutely zealous for Jehovah the God of armies; for the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, your altars they have torn down, and your prophets they have killed with the sword, and I am the only one left. Now they are seeking to take my life away.” To convince Jehovah of Armies of my intense feelings

Felt earnestly
After such eventful past days.

Yet,

These awe-inspiring elements performed,
by which I, became wonderfully inspired

Did motivate me to accomplish
all that Jehovah justly required

Without
further delay.

His loving-kindness and mercy
Wonderfully, me, did gratefully sway.
