Cocooned

Cocooned (Rafael Alberti – Deception – Brevity)

Cocoons
silken spun.

Worms weaving ‘webs’ promising ‘freedom’

won?

by sons’ and daughters’
red

shed over threads
woven ‘wrong’

said

in darkness spread;

misled in twilight to fight fiercely for: “In God We Trust”.

In God We Trust?

In a ‘god’ we must trust
continuing a ruse centuries ago used to confuse a naive wife:

‘Subjection’ is a dirty word.

‘Rebellion’ is better
heard.

Then Lost: a beautiful home, a loving ‘head’.
The ‘right’ to perfect children not thinking sadly ahead to death.

‘Dust-to-dust’

instead of joy, peace, rivers, song.

Not ‘enlightened’ to: Daily loving

strong

‘brothers’

‘happy’

too:

Cocooned.
